Kids bomb coach
JUNIOR AUSSIE RULES
SHAUN Stone may have been well inside rugby league heartland at Monto last Thursday but his effort to gain Aussie rules support in the next generation looked to be gaining traction.
The AFL Queensland coach is visiting Monto State School for six weeks and teaching the game to every year level.
“It’s a bit different for the kids but they seem to be taking to it really well,” he said.
“But some kids are pretty terrible with the rules, some of the guys know but the girls generally don’t have a clue.”
They might have been brought up with a different footy code to live by, but games like “bomb the coach” still go down a treat.
“Bomb the coach is where they all just kick the footy at me at the same time. It’s always a favourite,” Stone said.
While he said part of the six-week campaign was to get more Queensland kids supporting the game, the main idea was just to get kids active and playing sport.
