New inland highway is a concern

Central and North Burnett Times - - VOICE OF THE BURNETT - Troy Kippen

THERE is a push to have an inland highway route from Brisbane to Cairns that will travel through the North Burnett.

What must be remembered is that these highways do not always divert around our communities and any increase in traffic will inevitably impact on our lives and the future of our townships.

RACQ has already assessed the highways in the region and has reported that safety now was a concern without the impact of greater traffic flows if the route becomes an alternative to the Bruce Hwy.

There is no doubt an alternative has to be found, with another route needed to reduce the pressure on the main link north.

But any inland route will need significant investment, not only in upgrading the road, but also reducing the impact on our rural communities.
