Fresh face pops in for a visit
Dami Im is our special guest
DAMI IM, winner of The X Factor Australia 2013, will be the VIP guest at the Gayndah Races on October 11.
Partial to a refreshing drop of “really healthy” grapefruit juice or a lemon, lime and bitters, Ms Im was keen to visit Queensland’s oldest race club and citrus hub.
Ms Im promised her new single, Gladiator, would be on the playlist, after learning of the Gayndah Gladiators rugby league team’s determination to contest the recent grand final.
“I wrote the song about fighting for my love... and making sure that I get that person to love me back,” Ms Im said.
For those with anxiety or depression, she explained the song’s message was to “fight for your own love – to love yourself, be strong”.
With an approach to pop music as fresh as the citrus drinks she enjoys, the Brisbane-based singer said the X Factor experience had expanded her perspective on what she could do.
“I think it was a training ground for me where most of the songs thrown at me were songs I didn’t know at all but I had to perform them,” Ms Im said.
“I realise I can do fast songs and pop songs, where before I was better at the slower ballads.
“(In) stage production and performance everything was quite new, from walking in heels to performing with dancers and in mainly crazy, absurd outfits.”
What the X Factor experience didn’t change was Ms Im’s desire for the “audience to relate to the emotions, whether happy and cheerful or sad and angry”, she said.
Bookings to meet Ms Im at the Gayndah Races VIP Marquee should be made with the Golden Orange Hotel-Motel on 4161 1107.
Cost, including race entry, is $95 for non-members and $85 for members of the Gayndah Horse and Jockey Club.
RACES BOUND: Last year’s X Factor Australia winner Dami Im will attend the Gayndah Races on October 11.
