‘Rowdy’ storm sweeps area

BIGGENDEN was without power after storms swept across the town last week.

Boompa’s Beth Maitland put a new rain gauge in their top paddock just before the storm.

The previous gauge and the post it was attached to was swept away in the 2013 floods.

She said the new one had been sitting on the dining table until just before the rain hit.

“We’ve been saved by the bell for a bit longer after 57mm fell on Sunday and Monday nights and a further 30mm in a rowdy storm on Tuesday night.

“We also lost power for 24 hours,” she said.

At a Jacobi Rd property at Dallarnil, the McLeans recorded 34mm on Monday night and a further 18mm on Tuesday night.

The rain could have been instigated by The Mae Trio, who performed a song called Dedicated to Rain at the Small Halls Concert.
