Monto woman wins new Toyota Yaris

Central and North Burnett Times - - NEWS -

MELINDA Clarke has won the ‘Shop in the North Burnett’ campaign, which generated $1.3 million in local revenue.

The Montonian, who won a blue Toyota Yaris, said she had never had a “girly car”.

While the family’s old eight-year-old car doesn’t have a name, daughter Emilee wants to call their new car “Big Betty”.

Ms Clarke was one of six finalists, drawn at random from each community and given a chance to select the winning key.

Runners-up Mia Forster, Anne Koster, Alan Betts, Peta Staples and Allan Gallos Lumanggaya received fuel vouchers.

Mayor DonWaugh said the competition attracted 44,000 entries, with an average spend of about $30 per shopper.

Corporate and community services manager David Wisker said the council would continue to spend locally and tenders would soon be released to local contractors.

Competition sponsor Ken Mills said local purchases aided the local economy.
