Blue Cow in control to win
Team at top of ladder after fast-paced game
BLUE Cow triumphed over Balls of Fire 19–13 in a fast and furious game at YMCA Gayndah mixed netball this week.
The game placed Blue Cow at the top of the ladder, with Balls of Fire just one point behind.
Referee Dael Giddins said both sides battled with ball control during the game.
“Blue Cow were able to effectively pass it up the court with just a little bit more control,” Giddins said.
“Balls of Fire probably lost a lot of control in their circle by not slowing down their play and therefore weren’t getting their goals in. I think this was the reason they didn’t keep up the good scoring they were on.”
Blue Cow team members were effective in the circle despite being a few players down, team member Jayne Evans said.
“We had an older recruit come in – a past player come back to help us out,” Evans said.
“Alex Evans came back on fire; Sophie shot very well and Annie was all over the court.
“The weaknesses we were trying to exploit in the other team were Brent’s lack of knowledge about three feet (in defence), and making use of our height advantage.”
Nick Banks said team strengths for Balls of Fire were “speed and fun”.
“We’ve got a lot of kids who are a bit quicker, so probably we were trying to

get around the other team (to exploit their weaknesses),” Banks said.
During the night the team struggled with “trying to hold the ball” and communication – “not talking before we throw the ball”, he said.
“It was very quick-paced with a lot of turnover; a lot of middle play and interceptions.
“Our strongest players tonight were Kaitlyn – it may be her last game; Kate and Samantha.
“Everyone’s strong; we’re all pretty much equal.”
Blue Cow versus Balls of Fire was the only formal game of the evening as Larfalotz forfeited to The Goodies, and Twisters forfeited to The Other Team.
Current team rankings are Blue Cow first, Balls of Fire second, The Other Team third, followed by Twisters, The Goodies and Larfalotz.
