We need many more jobs in the North Burnett

Central and North Burnett Times - - VOICE OF THE BURNETT - Noel Thompson

NORTH Burnett has been named the region in the Wide Bay with the lowest unemployment and under normal circumstances this would be a great thing for everyone concerned.

The fact is people don’t stay in the North Burnett while they are unemployed; they leave. Young people who leave school are off to university and trade training, and not returning.

With the population decreasing, businesses are finding it harder. Work in the orchards and farms is getting much harder to find for local people. The statistics are all well and good, but the Government uses them to direct services to areas that may not warrant them.

I think everyone needs to look at what is really happening at a grass roots level. We need jobs to hold our towns together.
