AN EIDSVOLD man was fined in Gayndah Magistrates Court for failing to keep a shotgun secure and unloaded, except when in use.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Chris Elder said on the first occasion Scott Schuh had a loaded gun on a cupboard at his Eidsvold property, and on the second, his gun was found unsecured in his landrover.

Defence counsel Keith Rennick said Mr Schuh “didn’t have his mind on the job”.

“On November 24, he had lost a stock dog – bitten by a snake, and he was suffering from depression.”

The gun in the ute was in case of finding hurt stock in the paddock, Mr Rennick said.

Magistrate Graham Hillan ordered $1300 in fines.
