Queens­land on track to reach pro­duc­tion tar­get, says McVeigh

AGRI­CUL­TURE min­is­ter John McVeigh said the state was on track to reach its am­bi­tious tar­get of dou­bling agri­cul­tural pro­duc­tion by 2040.

“This is a long-term goal for agri­cul­ture and we have a strong plan to achieve this tar­get,” Mr McVeigh said.

“We have re­leased our 30 year agri­cul­ture strat­egy and the first State of Agri­cul­ture Re­port to be­gin track­ing our progress to­wards our goal of dou­bling agri­cul­ture pro­duc­tion by 2040.”

The min­is­ter said the depart­ment would con­tinue to work with farm­ers and the in­dus­try to help boost pro­duc­tion and cut red tape for farm­ers.

“Only un­der a New­man LNP gov­ern­ment will farm­ers have cer­tainty as well as clear, in­dus­try-sup­ported long-term plans to boost pro­duc­tion and prof­itabil­ity,” Mr McVeigh said.

“We are ad­dress­ing in­put costs for farm­ers, such as elec­tric­ity, through ini­tia­tives likes our Agri­cul­ture En­ergy Coun­cil and prac­ti­cal re­search through our En­ergy Savers Plus Pro­gram.”
