May 27 is the day

Central and North Burnett Times - - VOICE OF THE BURNETT - Shirley Way

THIS Australia Day, we have thanked community members who have inspired us – behind-the-scenes workers and those advocating up-front for services in our small towns. Growing national change are four Australians of the Year: a domestic violence campaigner, deaf advocate, environmentalist author, and social entrepreneur. Amidst these celebrations comes the voice of retired Aussie Rules football player Ron Barassi calling for change.

Let’s make May 27 – the anniversary of the 1967 referendum giving equal citizenship rights to Aborigines, as voted by 90.77% of Aussies – our national day. Is this the day we finally became a nation?
