Char­ity event a real win­ner

MT PERRY Race Club’s char­ity event forWide Bay emer­gency res­cue ser­vices was the first in its more than 140-year his­tory.

Race club pres­i­dent Gary Jensen ac­cepted the Sports Ad­min­is­tra­tor award for the June 2014 event, which raised $7000 for RACQ Care Flight and the Royal Fly­ing Doc­tor Ser­vice.

With more than 700 race­go­ers in attendance, Mr Jensen paid trib­ute to the race club’s vol­un­teers.

“We’re very proud to re­ceive this award as we run such a suc­cess­ful event for such a small com­mu­nity,” Mr Jensen said.

“It’s a very sat­is­fy­ing award for the work put in.”

With no horse train­ers in the area, race day re­mains a premier event for the town and its pro­mo­tion.

Me­dia ar­ti­cles about the day were printed in On the Road mag­a­zine, Bush Beat, Queens­land Coun­try Life, the Rac­ing Queens­land mag­a­zine and APN news­pa­pers, Coun­cil­lor John Bowen said be­fore pre­sent­ing the award to Mr Jensen.
