BEHIND-the-scenes organiser Dael Giddins paid tribute to her mum as she accepted Gayndah’s Citizen of the Year Award.

“My mum was a great volunteer to this town for 30-odd years,” Ms Giddins said.

“What she instilled in us was to get out there and help in the community.”

Taking her mum’s example to heart, Ms Giddins has been a volunteer at YMCA Gayndah since its establishment 31 years ago.

She also ensures daily access to the CWA hall, and is an active member of the Rotary Club.

Her many volunteer hours include helping with events for Little Athletics, Australia Day and Clean Up Australia Day.

In her speech, Ms Giddins thanked her husband Neil and son Jordan, and the many townspeople who volunteer their services.

Nominator John Mellor said Ms Giddins’ dedication and involvement may not always be noticed “as she just quietly goes about the jobs that need to be done and makes sure things happen”.
