Youth group wins award

MOUNT Perry’s youth were the big win­ners when the Youth Group, led by Sharon Bryant, was awarded the Ju­nior Cul­tural Award on Aus­tralia Day.

An ac­cred­ited leader, Ms Bryant leads the after-school ac­tiv­i­ties group in lit­tle ath­let­ics, sports ac­tiv­i­ties, arts, crafts and mu­si­cal ex­pres­sion.

On Fri­day af­ter­noons, the group de­lights in the newly-es­tab­lished com­mu­nity gar­den op­po­site the Sport and Rec Club.

The Se­nior Cul­tural Award was pre­sented to Ch­eryl Gerdes, whose artis­tic tal­ents in­cluded the cre­ation of a dragon for the re­lo­cated coun­cil li­brary and com­mu­nity posters.

An ac­tive mem­ber of the Mt Perry Tourism and Her­itage Group, Ms Gerdes also main­tains ex­hibits and acts as tour guide at the mu­seum.
