Talks held on Luthje’s Rd land

THE North Bur­nett Re­gional Coun­cil hopes the State Gov­ern­ment will help fi­nance devel­op­ment of wa­ter, sew­er­age and power on industrial land near Monto.

The site on Luthje’s Rd in Monto is the only industrial land owned by the coun­cil in the North Bur­nett and it be­lieves con­nect­ing th­ese ser­vices will help drive in­dus­try into the town.

in­stalling wa­ter, sew­er­age and power had been a bar­rier to in­vest­ment dur­ing the time the coun­cil owned it.

“In the seven to eight years we have had it there has been nib­bles of in­ter­est but the bar­rier is lack of ser­vices,” Cr Lobegeier said.

“We are try­ing to give peo­ple more in­cen­tives to de­velop in­dus­try here.

“If the min­ing in­dus­try ever takes off here, this land is likely to be of use.”

Cr Lobegeier said the idea had been put to Deputy Pre­mier Jackie Trad who “showed an in­ter­est” and dis­cus­sions were on­go­ing.
