THE pending relocation of the Biggenden State School’s Anzac memorial is a step nearer to fruition after a donation was received courtesy of the Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program.

Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd, who has also sponsored the Anzac Troop Train, last week presented the school with a $2556 donation towards the project.

Mr O’Dowd said he had met with principal Ros Rackemann and administrative officer Kathy Bennett on many occasions and was impressed by their commitment to their school and their students.

“The children are typical country kids and they give me hope for the future,” he said.

“Their interest in preserving our history is wonderful.

“I support this application 100%.”

Mrs Rackemann said the donation was fantastic for the school and appreciated by all involved.

“The year 2015 is a significant year for us as Anzac Day means so much to staff and students,” she said.

Ms Bennett said the relocation of the Anzac memorial from its present position beside the undercover area was necessary because the area was too crowded.

“The relocation to the front of the school will enable us to include a flag pole and paving,” she said.

“The landscaping would include Gallipoli roses.”
