TURTLE has gained an affectionate place in the hearts of handler Maddie Low and owner Sandra Verdonschott.

At the Gayndah Show, Maddie described Turtle, a 13-month-old speckled park steer, as “a big goofball”.

“He’s just casual, the biggest dag in the paddock,” Ms Verdonschott added.

“We’ve only just started with speckled park – we’ve three here today and three breeders at home.

“They’re bred mainly for meat – and are second to none.

“When you eat the beef on Emirates flights, you’re eating speckled park.”

Maddie, who would win junior stud parader later in the day, said she had been showing the Verdonschotts’ cattle for three years.

“The cattle have all got a different attitude,” she said.

“You’ve got to get in the field with them and connect with them.”
