Keep ice out of our towns

Central and North Burnett Times - - VOICE OF THE BURNETT - NOEL THOMPSON

THE community expects its politicians to work together to solve big issues, such as the methamphetamine epidemic.

As a father, I am petrified that one of my children may have a try of this revolting drug and get hooked.

If the penalties for the possession and distribution of ice is the same as the slap on the wrist for smoking and growing weed, I think we are in lots of trouble.

In the US penalties for possession and sale of methamphetamine is the same as heroin and cocaine.

The police in our country towns have to be backed all the way by the judicial system and the government to hand down jail sentences to people peddling this scourge on our community.

A $300 fine just doesn’t cut it for possession. A jail term is the only way to treat this cancer on our way of life.
