Fatal crashes were 27 years apart
WHEN a plane went missing at the weekend, it was 27 years to the day since another tragic aviation accident rocked Biggenden.
In 1988 a plane crashed 12km north-east of Biggenden, with two people fatally injured.
Kenneth Smith, 48, and Peter Wilson, 32, were the victims of the 1988 crash.
The alarm was raised by a Dallarnil man when he saw a column of smoke rising off the mountain.
A local doctor, Trevor Beall, was flown in by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
Both crashes occurred on the third Saturday of April, with a big golf carnival also held on both days.
