One-of-a-kind hats sell well

Central and North Burnett Times - - MT PERRY SHOW -

HANDMADE hats and turtle hatchlings took pride of place at Susan Snowdon’s stall at this year’s Mt Perry Show.

The Gin Gin entrepreneur has been making hats for 15 years and the turtle hatchlings, which she sells through Mon Repos Conservation Park, for 10 years.

“Inspiration comes from different ideas (and) lots of craft shops had never seen anything like it,” Ms Snowdon said.

“The hatchlings are kid-safe and machine washable.”

The range started with the turtle hatchlings, then expanded to a platypus, clownfish (Nemo), owls and a dinosaur, with a barramundi recently designed for Gin Gin Tourist Information Centre.

Ms Snowdon began making hats for her own kids when she couldn’t find a wide-brimmed one that suited.

Soon enough, she expanded the range to include light-weight machine-washable hats for adults too.

Her creations are sold under ‘Nutty Creations’ as she used to make things of gumnuts and gum leaves.

“I sell through word of mouth mostly, and only occasionally through markets.”
