UAEdeal to open up doors

Central and North Burnett Times - - THE FENCE POST - Erica Murree

BROWN Swiss heifers from the Radel Family dairy herd at Biggenden are destined for the United Arab Emirates.

Robbie Radel said he was feeling privileged for five of his beasts to be first ever brown Swiss heifers exported into UAE.

“Hopefully if the customer is happy it could easily lead to more deals in the future,” he said.

“We are probably not getting any more money for them by selling overseas as opposed to locally, but it certainly has the potential to open doors for future sales.”

Mr Radel said he was contacted by Elders representative Jon Padman from Toowoomba as his name was still on the brown Swiss Australia website as national president, however he no longer has that role.

“I did my three years and then stood aside,” he said..

“Jon Padman was the person who came to inspect and purchase on behalf of the buyers from the UAE.”

Elders International Livestock Procurement manager Scott Altschwager of Melbourne said the consignment ex Radel at Biggenden forms part of a mixed consignment of breeding animals for their customer in the UAE.

“In total 11 different breed categories of Australian livestock make up the customer order.

“The consignment required unjoined young breeding females and young bulls for the same breed. The stock is currently in quarantine with departure via aircraft planned for later this week.

Mr Altschwager said he wasn’t aware of why the customer finds the brown Swiss appealing against other breeds as Jerseys and Sahiwals also made the consignment.

“Historically we have at times had a requirement for brown Swiss cattle however this has not been on a regular basis,” he said.
