Volunteer efforts rewarded

It was organised byWide Bay Volunteers Group and held at the Gayndah Town Hall last Thursday.
Group chairman Clive Johnson said the day was all about the people in attendance – the volunteers.
“Volunteers take pride in their community and have a passion for the people in it,” he said.
“A highlight of the individual nominations was the length of service and the number of organisations they represented.”
North Burnett Regional Council Mayor DonWaugh was only too pleased to be able to recognise those nominated.
“No matter how big or how small, you get a reward from volunteering,” he said.
CrWaugh said when he attended his first awards at Gin Gin there was only one person nominated from the North Burnett.
“Congratulations on how it has grown,” he said.
Overall excellence award went to Doug Green, of Gayndah, while the special recognition was Biggenden’s Moira Thompson.
Mr Green has been volunteering for more than 10 years for Meals on Wheels.
When he is not rostered on he is filling in for others to ensure the delivery of meals.
Moira Thompson volunteers her time with the PCYC ES cadets and going group bush walking.
She encourages those youth to volunteer in the community.
She has organised Anzac Day MtWalsh dawn service for the past six years.
Mrs Thompson said she enjoyed sharing her second home, the Bluff.
TOP VOLUNTEERS: Moira Thompson and Doug Green have served the North Burnett region with pride and passion.
“It’s the best playground in the world,” she said.
“In my mind volunteering is a sense of being part of the human society.
“It’s a necessity. You get a real sense of achievement by helping each other out and using your talents.”
