Master chef in the making

Central and North Burnett Times - - 2015 BIGGENDEN SHOW -

MONICA Hetherington now has a new Mixmaster to cook up a storm in the family kitchen at Dallarnil.

The 11-year-old took out the champion cake in the junior section at the Biggenden Show with her pumpkin fruit cake.

Judge Bev Hibberd, of Maryborough, had five cakes to determine the champion.

It was the evenness of the fruit that tipped the scales Monica’s way.

Monica said she was happy and excited to win.

“I will definitely use it and wear it out.

“I enjoy making cupcakes and all sorts of slices.”

Her mentors have been her mum Loretta and grandmother Bev Mooney.

Chocolate cake must be a favourite for the under-12s as there were 15 in the class. Steward Michelle Kinbacher said it was a difficult task to find a winner.

“It got down to moistness and taste, with Caitlin Cougan’s getting the nod,”
