Young golfer to rep­re­sent Wide Bay in Cairns

GOLF­ING tal­ent Bai­ley Kimber is off to Cairns in July to rep­re­sen­tWide Bay.

Bai­ley is one of seven boys and five girls who will play in the All Schools State Golf Cham­pi­onships.

Mun­dub­bera Golf Club is right be­hind Bai­ley and last Sun­day held a two ball am­brose to raise funds to help him pay for his trip.

Bai­ley said he was thrilled when the club de­cided to help him out and he was grate­ful to the 40 golfers who turned out to play on the day.

“So many busi­nesses in Mun­dub­bera have banded to­gether to do­nate prizes for the tour­na­ment. It is amaz­ing how the com­mu­nity has got be­hind me,” he said.

“I have been prac­tis­ing so hard for weeks now and I don’t want to let down the peo­ple who have sup­ported me.”

Bai­ley said his game had been im­prov­ing with all the prac­tice he had been putting in.

“Now I have to work on my fit­ness be­cause I will have to walk around the Cairns course for four days in a row,” he said.

“I am not al­lowed to have a buggy or a caddy.”

Bai­ley is the 2015 Club Cham­pion and was the youngest player ever to take this ti­tle.

Am­brose win­ners War­ren Kimber and Jess See­ley with Dianna Hun­sley, Bai­ley Kimber and Re­becca Kimber. Kimber said her whole fam­ily was so proud of her son.

“He is a shin­ing light for us wher­ever he goes and what­ever he does,” Mrs Kimber said.

“Win or not, he will be able to hold his head up high just for giv­ing it a good go.”

The win­ners of the two ball am­brose, spon­sored by the Kimber fam­ily, were Jess See­ley, War­ren Kimber and Mal­colm Brown 74/60 with Peter Hun­sley and Robyn Maeyke run­ners-up 60.5 while BradWard and Sam Charles 61.5 were sec­ond run­ners-up.

Brad­mans were awarded to Eve­lyn Kimber and B Parr 90 and M Cross with B Briggs 86.5.

Pin shots were won by Jeff Nor­ris and M Dowe on hole num­ber four, Brad Ward and S Charles on hole num­ber five with J and N Parr on num­ber 9.

Ball com­pe­ti­tion was won by Stephen Zipf and Lois Mes­ner 62.

Next week’s com­pe­ti­tion is Monthly Medal spon­sored by Tony Smythe.
