Rare bird is Monto Hotel’s new mascot
PRINCESS Tequila is Monto’s newest resident and spends most of her time at the pub.
Monto Albert Hotel owner Maria Dickson’s pet macaw is the hotel’s latest addition with her bold blue and yellow feathers causing a buzz.
“Everyone is going, holy cow, that’s a macaw,” Mrs Dickson said.
“We’re having people pull up at the hotel and go, is that a big lorikeet? Oh no, it’s a macaw.”
Currently 22 weeks old, Tequila is still a baby and spends her free time doing what a lot of other babies do – chewing.
“She really is a handful,” Mrs Dickson laughed.
“She loves pulling everything apart, loves tissue boxes, and loves wood.
“She can crack open a whole macadamia no worries at all.”
Though the only of her type in town, Tequila could make new friends soon when she hits the streets in coming months.
“I’ve got a brace, so I can take her for walks,” Mrs Dickson said.
“We’ll have some blinds upstairs in the hotel so she’ll be able to fly around.
“And in summer, we’ll put a cage in the beer garden so she can spend some time there.”
Tequila has spoken her first word, hello, but hopefully she’ll live up to her name. “We’re trying to teach her to say tequila shots,” Mrs Dickson said.
PUB PET: Albert Hotel Monto has a new mascot, and after spending the past five weeks together, Maria Dickson said she wouldn't be without her.
