Fergus lives after two near-death experiences
Meet the North Burnett dog with nine lives after his latest brush with death
MONTO dog Fergus is a fighter and has already survived a brown snake bite and a vehicle incident this year.
The latter incident might have taken his leg, but definitely not his mojo.
Almost three weeks after losing the limb, Fergus is happily adjusting to his new life.
Owner Judi Baldwin couldn’t be more proud of the pup.
LOSING a leg is a life-changing experience, but amputee Fergus is going about his days like nothing ever happened.
The two-year-old chihuahua-cross pomeranian’s latest misadventure came at a cost, but such is the risk when one is a big dog in a small dog’s body.

Owner Judy Baldwin said her viewpoint on what was originally a terrifying twist of events has improved with Fergus’ promising recovery.
“Three weeks ago, he was run over by a car,” she said. “When it happened, I just felt absolutely sick.
“Stacey from Monto Veterinary Surgery could not save his leg, so the only option was to have it amputated.
“And the other leg which was still there, it was skinned back to the bone and he also had bruising on his abdomen.”
In recovery mode, Fergus has been spending time at Ms Baldwin’s Monto business, Just Teasin, and acting as the salon’s mascot.
“He bounced back really quickly with lots of love, and cuddles and rest,” Ms Baldwin said.
“He’s doing quiet well for a little dog.
“He lost his big dog mojo for a couple of days, but it’s back.
“Fergus walks fine, negotiates stairs, and has even jumped on the couch.
“The vet said that in three months, he won’t even know he had a leg as he’ll be so used to doing what he’s doing.
“Hopefully it won’t impact his life at all.”
This isn’t Fergus’ first brush with danger.
“He nearly had his dew claw taken off with a hedger and in February, he got bitten by a brown snake,” Ms Baldwin said.
