Cadets show team work at games

A TEAM of eight cadets from Biggenden’s PCYC Emer­gency Ser­vices joined 140 other cadets at the State Cadet Games in Bris­bane at the week­end.

They com­peted against cadets from army, navy, mil­i­tary, ru­ral fire, surf life­sav­ing and St John’s cadets, as well as emer­gency ser­vices cadet teams from other towns across Queens­land.

Biggenden co-or­di­na­tor Moira Thomp­son said sce­nar­ios in­cluded im­pro­vis­ing stretch­ers, pho­netic ra­dio calls, nav­i­ga­tion, ropes and knots, sand-bag­ging and march­ing.

The sec­ond round saw cadets make up mixed groups, giv­ing them the op­por­tu­nity to prob­lem solve and do team work with new peo­ple.

Biggenden cadet An­gus McAskill was in the mixed team that came sec­ond, and Ja­cob McLen­nan was in the team that took out first place.

Mrs Thomp­son said con­sid­er­ing both An­gus and Ja­cob went as spec­ta­tors, they were very proud of their achieve­ments when they had to com­pete.
