Cadets show team work at games
A TEAM of eight cadets from Biggenden’s PCYC Emergency Services joined 140 other cadets at the State Cadet Games in Brisbane at the weekend.
They competed against cadets from army, navy, military, rural fire, surf lifesaving and St John’s cadets, as well as emergency services cadet teams from other towns across Queensland.
Biggenden co-ordinator Moira Thompson said scenarios included improvising stretchers, phonetic radio calls, navigation, ropes and knots, sand-bagging and marching.
The second round saw cadets make up mixed groups, giving them the opportunity to problem solve and do team work with new people.
Biggenden cadet Angus McAskill was in the mixed team that came second, and Jacob McLennan was in the team that took out first place.
Mrs Thompson said considering both Angus and Jacob went as spectators, they were very proud of their achievements when they had to compete.
