Tigers make history at mud-filled encounter
DESPITE the mud and the rain, the Mundubbera Tigers made local history with the game against the Eidsvold Eagles at the Martin Love Oval on Saturday.
For the first time this season there were two sets of three brothers playing for the Mundubbera team.
Dan Augustine said he enjoyed playing with his brothers, Brendon and Cody.
“I think it has never been done before has it,” Augustine said.
“You get to play with your brothers while playing with your best mates.
“You can give them a bit of cheek and give them a bit of s*** at times.
“It’s good to have a beer with them after the game and talk over it; it gives you more yarns for the future I guess.”
For 18-year-old Bailey Kimber, it was one of the first times he had played with her brothers, Jacob and Troy, on the field.
“I played all my junior football, but I never played with them because they’re older than me,” Kimber said.
“It’s good to run out on the field with them.
Kimber said it was a good game for the Tigers, who defeated Eidsvold 50 to 4.
“Obviously Eidsvold had a depleted side, but it was a good game by Mundubbera,” Kimber said.
“We really had to get some momentum going leading into the finals.”
Eidsvold coach Blake Popp said he was disappointed with the game.
“(The game) was not too good,” Mr Popp said.
“We were short of numbers as people were away.
“It was very muddy, which didn’t help at all.”
He said a number of things went through player’s heads in the wet conditions.
“Just play the ball the short, no long passes,” he said.
“You’ve got to keep it in and don’t drop it, just complete sets.”
Popp said the team could take away one thing from the defeat.
“Our defence was really good,” he said “We were on our line.” The semi-finals will begin in Mundubbera on Saturday.
