RSL welcomes new painting
THE Mundubbera Social Darts Club Association has donated a painting to the Mundubbera RSL.
Dart Association treasurer Ian Mascovich donated the paining by local artist Sue Lederhose.
The painting, called the 4th Light Horse at the Charge of Beersheba, is on display at the Mundubbera Art Gallery as part of Mrs Lederhose’s exhibit.
RSL president David Roach said he welcomed the painting.
“Referred to as History’s last great cavalry charge, the attack took place at dusk on the 31st October 1917,” Mr Roach said.
“The capture of Beersheba enabled the British to break the Ottoman line and advance into Palestine.
“The battle is also a testament to the courage and tenacity of Australian Mounted Troops under Lieutenant General Harry Chauvel and to the stout walers they rode into battle upon.
“The magnificent painting will be mounted in the RSL Hall following the close of Mrs Lederhose’s current exhibition.”
