Juniors play for shield
Players were determined in Orange Festival games
CENTRAL Burnett Brumbies under-14 playerWarwick Pearse was awarded the player on the field in their game against the Cherbourg under-14 team after a great display.
“I feel pretty glad that I was able to play a good game today,” Pearse said.
“We all put in the effort and I think as a team we did pretty well.”
While the Brumbies went down to the Cherbourg team 10–6, Pearse said the team had a lot to be proud of.
Pearse said his team had strengths across the field but Cherbourg managed to exploit their weaknesses.
“I’d say that attack is our best but honestly it depends on the day because our defence can be good at other times,” Pearse said.
“We have to work on our outside play a little more, on the wings and working the ball out to our edges.”
Pearse has been playing up an age group in the U16 team and will be making the move permanently next season.
“I think I’ll go okay when I move up to the 16s,” Pearse said.
“I already play up from time to time, just not today because I am too stuffed from this game.”
Under-12s fall short
THE Central North Burnett Brumbies under-12 side took it to Cherbourg but fell just short of a victory.
Brumbies player Ryan Johnson said despite that the team did well.
“Cherbourg have a good team and can work the ball around a little better than us but we do have that go forward to our advantage,” Johnson said.
“We just don’t spin the ball around or step on the outside like they do but I think we still did alright.”
Cherbourg won the hit-out 32–24 in a high-scoring encounter. This is Johnson’s last season with the U12 side before moving up to the next age level.
“I move up to the 14s next season, some of those boys in the 14s team will move up to 16s and some of us move up to replace them,” Johnson said.
Johnson was also awarded player on the field for his team.
