THE Big Orange has adapted its business over the years, from being just an orchard to a café that offers a selection of fresh choices for morning tea and lunch.

Big Orange owner Neil Richards said diversifying the business was what has allowed them to keep the business running.

“We were an orchard selling fruit and now we are more of a café selling food,” Mr Richards said.

Mr Richards said of all the options on their menu it was the scones that were their specialty.

“The scones are our specialty here I’d say, they are freshly home made every day,” Mr Richards said.

“Everyone comments on how good they are, so the combination of our scones with some Devonshire tea is always a hit.”

The Big Orange also offers a range of freshly made wraps including a bacon and egg wrap, chicken wrap and tropical chicken wrap, as well as a range of breakfast options.

“We have three options for breakfast,” Mr Richards said.

“A bacon and egg burger, a bacon and egg wrap and a bacon and egg toasted sandwich and again it is all made fresh to order.”

Mr Richards said everything made at the café was never rushed.

“Everything is freshly made to order here, everything is 100 per cent totally fresh,” he said.

The Big Orange also has a range of burgers on the menu, and the guest book indicates they are a hit with visitors.

These burgers include a works burger, Hawaiian burger, double cheese burger and a beef burger just to name a few.

While most of their business was from tourists, Mr Richards said they had a core group of regular locals and hoped to see that build.

“We have lots of regular people who enjoy coming in for morning tea like the Blue Care people,” Mr Richards said.

“Sundays are big for us with a lot of the church groups also enjoying our food for morning tea.”

Mr Richards said other social groups like the Gayndah Gardners also held their meetings in the café, which could seat up to 60 people. All this is available every day at the Big Orange in Gayndah.
