LAWN BOWLS: MONTO Bowls Club and Just Teasin’s Bras ‘n’ Bowls event proved to be a big hit last Friday, raising $4500 for Cancer Council and McGrath Foundation.

Just Teasin’ owner Judi Baldwin, who organised the event to raise awareness of breast cancer, praised the support from the community.

“We came up with the event and organised it in two weeks, but it came together so well,” Mrs Baldwin said.

The evening’s festivities stayed indoors for the most part, save a quick round of Spider, where attendees bowled for prizes.

Amanda Salisbury from Monto Hospital and Sasha Kay from Pacific Plastic Surgery Bundaberg spoke about care options and the changing attitudes and increasing openness about breast cancer.

There were more than 20 prizes to win, plus a swathe of items donated by local businesses to be won in the charity auction and raffle.

Bowls club ladies’ president Bronwyn Torrens said there were some initial concerns the club wouldn’t get the numbers needed but those concerns were quickly put to rest.

“So many businesses pitched in, we had plenty of prizes to give away,” Mrs Torrens said.
