All drivers need to ensure road safety
THE words Road safety are powerful and important for all ages, especially for those who are motorists or passengers.
If someone were to analyse the topics or themes I write about, I think they’d find road safety or traffic related posts would appear the most.
Road safety is one of the areas I am passionate about for a number of reasons and I’m inspired by the many road safety advocates working collaboratively, developing innovative campaigns and adding in the human face to the equation.
The title words aren’t my own, they belong to our friends at Transport Accident Commission in Victoria.
I’ve watched the clip many times before and for those who haven’t seen it, I hope this could be a start to having our communities being encouraged to work towards a road toll of zero, just like our Victorian counterparts.
We are no different, we use roads and drive or travel in vehicles every day.
We need everyone to change what they currently consider to be acceptable in relation to traffic crashes and tragic fatalities.
It could take one simple change, whether it be leaving home a few minutes earlier, taking a different scenic route to work so you don’t become complacent with your known surroundings and rework your observation skills, carpooling.
Or it could be remembering the Fatal Five, you know the drill, speeding, fatigue, drink/drug driving, seatbelts and distraction/ inattention and sharing and speaking up about your idea.
