Dedication and balance pays off for Monto State High dux
AWARDS Night was a night of validation for Monto State High School dux Dylan Burgess.
The soon-to-graduate Year 12 student took out many of the top academic, sporting and cultural honours on the night.
He won five subject awards, three Very High Achievement awards, and five sporting awards, including the top award for track and field.
In addition to that, he also won special awards on the night, including the Senior English prize, the Visual and Performing Arts award, Senior Sport Person of the Year, and USQ Year 12 Excellence award.
Dylan said he attributed his ability to balance these different fields of achievement to his strict sleep schedule, inspired by rapper 50 Cent.
“His daily routine is to go to bed at 9 o’clock and wake up at 3 o’clock,” he said.
“I tried to do that by going to bed at 9 and waking up at 5, so I’d get my eight hours sleep every night”.
Dylan took his inspiration from people he considered successful, such as 50 Cent and Bill Gates, as well as his mother, Kirsten Burgess.
“I don’t know of anyone who works as hard as her,” he said.
Mrs Burgess was an international equestrian competitor, who inspired Dylan in his own sporting achievements.
He plans to enrol at QUT to study exercise physiology, and pursue a career in health science.
