Unfortunately it’s time to say bye to The Y
YES it is sad having to close the doors of the Gayndah YMCA and also to all the great work done in the beginning to get this facility by the late Frank Robinson and Roy Emmerton.
What started as a sevenday wonder, which is what everyone was saying, became a 33-year-long commitment to the Gayndah community.
These gentlemen put in a lot of their time and finances to have somewhere for the young and old of Gayndah to use as a meeting place and to keep fit and active while doing so.
Along the way we have had numerous volunteers and some of them are still with us now and we can’t thank them enough as we close the doors to this wonderful icon.
Over the years we have been able to house many organisations and provide many different sporting activities as well as school vacation programs and after-school care, too many to remember myself.
We are still hopeful that a new venture will open at this great facility in the near future, so please watch this space closely because as they say, “as one door closes another opens”.
The YMCA will be holding a free BBQ at the facility from 4pm on Sunday.
This is also the date of the Gayndah YMCA official closure.
So come along and reminisce with others your stories of your days with the YMCA and what you will miss most about it.
Maybe bring along a few old photos to share with others who got great enjoyment out of the centre.
I would like to thank everyone in the community who has shown the YMCA their support over the past 33 years and look forward to seeing what the future will bring.
I also look forward to seeing you all there.
