Byrne is the new Qld Ag Min­is­ter

AF­TER the re­cent res­ig­na­tion of Agri­cul­tural Min­is­ter Leanne Don­ald­son, Bill Byrne has been made the new Min­is­ter for Agri­cul­ture and Fish­eries.

Premier An­nasta­cia Palaszcuk made the an­nounce­ment on Fri­day with QFF pres­i­dent Stu­art Ar­mitage wel­com­ing the reap­point­ment of Min­is­ter Byrne.

“QFF look for­ward con­tin­u­ing its con­struc­tive re­la­tion­ship with the Palaszcuk gov­ern­ment through Min­is­ter Byrne,” Mr Ar­mitage said.

“Agri­cul­ture is re­gional and ru­ral Queens­land’s main­stay em­ployer and im­por­tantly, it is a grow­ing sec­tor dur­ing the re­sources down­turn.

“Grow­ing Queens­land’s $17 bil­lion plus agri­cul­tural sec­tor de­pends on the right gov­ern­ment sup­port and pol­icy set­tings, and we look for­ward to work­ing with Min­is­ter Byrne to re­alise this.”

The reap­point­ment comes af­ter Ms Don­ald­son re­signed from cabi­net when it was re­vealed she had not paid al­most $8000 in rates for three years.
