Now I don’t want to alarm anyone but there’s now only just over 4 weeks until Christmas. It seems with age each year just goes faster and faster. With the end of 2016 fast approaching it is a good time to reflect on the achievements of the year just gone. We have held some amazing events, achieved great things and numerous volunteers have dedicated their time and skills to make 2016 a special year for the communities in the North Burnett. Each year council wishes to publicly recognise these local legends for their efforts to make our community a better and brighter place for everyone. Last year there were a few gaps in the award nominations, not because we didn’t have anyone absolutely worthy of the awards, but more so because they weren’t nominated. A nomination only takes a few minutes but will have a lasting effect on someone who will then be recognised for their contribution. So here is my challenge – You have one day left to nominate as many deserving people as you can for an Australia day award. Categories include: Citizen of the Year; Young Citizen of the Year; Volunteer of the Year; Community Event of the Year; Sports Administrator Award; Junior Sports Award; Senior Sports Award; Junior Cultural Award; and Senior Cultural Award. You have the power to encourage and empower your local community, please don’t let that pass you by. Nomination forms are available at council admin centres or there is an online form at www.northburnett.qld.gov.au/australia-day. Talk soon, Rachel.
