Courtesy award win ‘a surprise’
GAYNDAH Furnishers and Floors owner and operator Shane Ostwald has been awarded the Gayndah Development Association Courtesy Award for 2016.
The award is in recognition of Mr Ostwald’s community work.
Gayndah Development Association president Steve Hickey presented Mr Ostwald the award and plaque that now bears his name.
“It was a complete surprise. I didn’t know I was nominated and when I got home Sue told me we had to go out,” Mr Ostwald said.
“At that point I still had no idea.
“Sue wanted to take me to the carols, which is quite odd. I was resisting a bit but once we got into town she sprung it on me that I would be a part of proceedings.”
The Gayndah Development Association receives three nominations from the community and then members of the community and business community vote anonymously.
“It makes it a little more special that it is voted on by your peers,” Mr Ostwald said.
“It’s really nice to get that award. We are here to be a part of the community and there are some pretty good people on that courtesy board already. It’s nice to be thought of like them.
“To be honest, it was a bit bewildering for me at first and I didn’t know what to say.”
Mr Ostwald recognised the importance of receiving the award.
“It’s obviously a huge honour and I think it’s good to have something that recognises those people who do a little extra around the community,” he said.
The award recognises the contribution of business owners to their local community.
