Australia Day at the Orange
THE Golden Orange Hotel is the place to be this Australia Day, with live entertainment along with fun and games on offer from 11am.
Local musician Matty Ulcoq is set to perform in the beer garden along with a barbecue lunch including lamb sausages.
Golden Orange manager Renee McGilvery hopes to see another great Australia Day celebration.
“Everyone loves Matty and the last time he performed here went really well,” Ms McGilvery said.
“We have no set time for the entertainment yet but it will be in the afternoon along with a nice lunch.
“And to help people cool down, the events will involve the soaker hose.”
Fun and games for all ages will be the theme of the day.
An adult and kids triathlon will be taking place with $5 entry for adults and $2 for kids.
The adults start with a football throw before navigating an obstacle course with a wheel barrow containing a carton of beer before finishing with a classic thong throw.
“We will be doing that on the footpath outside the beer garden,” Ms McGilvery said.
“This is going to be a family fun day.”
Meanwhile the kids race will begin with Tim Tam eating before zig-zagging through the soaker hose and finally a water balloon throw.
“All the money raised will go to LifeFlight, which we recently had personal experience with,” Ms McGilvery said.
Golden Orange owner Lorraine Mogg was airlifted by LifeFlight on New Year’s Day.
“We learned then that every call out to Gayndah costs somewhere around $12,000,” Ms McGilvery said.
“That made us want to help raise money, because we all see how often they fly in and out of Gayndah and at that cost we wanted to help.”
The Golden Orange also offers a courtesy bus for safe travel to and from the tavern and can be phoned on 4161 1107.
“We hope to see you there for a great family day,” Ms McGilvery said.

KEEPING COOL: Last year kids like Caitlin Cougan enjoyed a slide and this year it’s a soaker hose.
