Cru­cial life line for North Burnett

RACQ LifeF­light he­li­copters flew 149 mis­sions to the North Burnett in 2016 in­clud­ing 10 life threat­en­ing ac­ci­dents.

An RACQ LifeF­light spokesmab was able to give a break down of the call outs.

The high­est vol­ume of mis­sions were for in­ter hos­pi­tal trans­fers at 125 and of the 149 mis­sions in to­tal 22 were di­rectly re­lated to mo­tor ve­hi­cle and mo­tor­cy­cle ac­ci­dents.

“This num­ber in­cludes when crews ar­rived on the site of the ac­ci­dent as well as trans­ported be­tween hos­pi­tals,” the spokesman said.

Eighty-three mis­sions were for pre ex­ist­ing med­i­cal con­di­tions with the most com­mon be­ing car­diac con­di­tions at 22 and ab­dom­i­nal con­di­tions with 18; 16 mis­sions were also con­ducted for falls, from an­i­mals and other var­i­ous cir­cum­stances in­clud­ing farm ac­ci­dents.

LifeF­light are called for a wide range of in­ci­dents, two of the 2016 call outs were for search and res­cue mis­sions also.

The 149 mis­sions in a cal­en­der year equates to al­most three a week, prov­ing the im­por­tance of the ser­vice pro­vided by LifeF­light to the North Burnett.
