Crowning first cup winner
Zillman edges out competition
THE final round of the inaugural Eclectic Summer Cup crowned the first winner at the weekend with Matt Zillman fighting off late challenges to seal it.
Club captain Steve Gallagher said Sunday rain was not enough to deter players and 15 showed up to challenge Zillman for the cup.
“What a fantastic finish to the Eclectic Summer Cup,” Gallagher said.
“Matt took the lead on Saturday but Jeremy Zahl nearly stole the show with the lowest gross score on the front nine this year.
“But the day belonged to Matt who held on to the narrowest of margins to take out the event with a 23 nett.”
Jeremy Zahl and Nicole Chapman both finished half a nett point behind Zillman with Jim Myers and Glenn Evans both recording 24 each.
“Congratulations to all those who participated,” Gallagher said.
“This Saturday is the January Monthly Medal and I have heard on the grape vine that one Jim Edwards is very keen to win all the Monthly Medals this year.
“Also, Australia Day is this Thursday so at sporters this week I would like to see who can turn up in their most Australian outfit.
“I have elected Lindsay Baker to identify the winning outfit on the day.”
The official opening for the 2017 Gayndah golf season is set for Saturday, February 4.
“It will be a two-ball ambrose so organise your playing partner and come on out to open the season,” Gallagher said.
