Meet Eidsvold school’s fresh teachers

Central and North Burnett Times - - NEWS -

EIDSVOLD State School has five new teachers this year.

Lesleigh Dwyer, who previously taught special education, will teach Prep and Year 1, Lou Fielding will teach Years 4, 5 and 6, Jack McNeale and Aaron Bernard are taking seniors and Joanna Pickham will be doing dance, drama, English and LOTE.

Principal Carole Boatwright said teaching in a rural community was a unique challenge.

“Because we’re a smaller school we have composite classes, so that adds an extra load to teachers,” Ms Boatwright said.

“They all came and visited before coming here and (deputy principal) Preston and I were able to share information with them.”

Mr Bernard, from Caboolture, called the change in living a big shift.

“I really enjoyed the feel of the school and it’s still reasonably close to home,” he said.

He had lived here a little more than two weeks and was settling in well.

Some have already taken on a few new programs at the school – Mr Bernard is running the Smart Moves PE program, while Ms Pickham is putting together dance and vocal groups.
