A big season of golf ahead
2017 season begins this weekend
THE official season opening round of golf is set to take place on Saturday and is scheduled as a two-person ambrose event.
Club captain Steve Gallagher is eager to officially begin the year’s game play with practice rounds being played in the weeks leading up to it.
“Everyone should come along, let’s make this a great 2017 of golf,” Gallagher said.
The Gayndah Golf Club will also be hosting a junior and senior players coaching clinics from 8am and 9am respectively while Sunday players are being encouraged to attend the Biggenden Men’s Open Day.
On February 11, the club will host the first 4BBB Stableford Qualifying event for 2017 and Sunday, February 19 is the first men’s and ladies open including the February monthly medal event.
The veterans played on Tuesday, warming up for the official rounds.
Club member and regular vets player Lindsay Baker won the first monthly medal of the year.
“It is good to get that one early, would be nice to get the next one too,” Baker said.
“Our official opening, which we now call an open day, is coming up and it’s looking like a good 2017.
“And we have a good turn out of vets playing today and we just left home where it was 39 degrees.”
There is also another edition to the club games, Gallagher said.
“Once a month we are having an early Sunday social game, with a bacon and egg roll and then a 7am tee off so people can still enjoy the rest of the day however they like,” Gallagher said. PHOTOS: ADAM MCCLEERY
