Buy the experience not the cheapest deal

Central and North Burnett Times - - TRAVEL -

WITH the rise of online travel providers, it seems there’s never been a better time for consumers to book their own holidays. The internet is full of competing travel sites and aggregators that all boast the “best deals” or the “lowest prices”.

While there’s nothing wrong with wanting to get your holiday for the best price, travel should never just be a quest for the cheapest price. When you’re creating memories to last a lifetime, it should be about buying the experience. Shop around

This may seem pretty obvious. If you’re on the hunt for a great travel deal then of course you’re going to explore all your options. However you’d be surprised how many people are tricked into buying the first “great deal” they come across.

It’s a mistake to book the first deal you see. It’s also a mistake to book the cheapest thing you see. Cheapest isn’t always best. In fact, it’s rarely best. The package may be cheap because of some hidden terms and conditions, or it might even be missing something that you don’t know you need.

Read reviews

This is a vital step that many people skip, but if you’ve been burned once you’ll never skip it again. Customer reviews are helpful in ensuring that the hotel or tour that you’re booking delivers on what it promises.

However they’re not only great for finding out if a hotel is good or dodgy, they’re also helpful in checking up on the agent you’re considering booking with.

Examine inclusions

Following on from reading reviews, don’t just be wowed by a long list of “inclusions”. Be sure you’ll actually use what is being offered and get the most value out of your inclusions.

The idea of bundling everything together and scoring some freebies and discounts is pretty attractive, but be sure you really consider what you’re paying for. Some deals actually work against the customer by leaving certain essentials out of the package while including extras that are of no real value to you.
