Cru­cial to keep ru­ral fire brigades up to stan­dard

THE Coal­stoun Lakes Fire Bri­gade has sub­mit­ted an ap­pli­ca­tion for fund­ing through the Ru­ral Fire Levy funds col­lected by the North Bur­nett Re­gional Coun­cil.

North Bur­nett Re­gional Coun­cil ad­dressed the ap­pli­ca­tion dur­ing the Jan­uary coun­cil meet­ing.

The ru­ral Fire Levy con­trib­utes to the cost of oper­at­ing ru­ral fire brigades within the coun­cil.

Coal­stoun Lakes Fire Bri­gade sub­mit­ted the ap­pli­ca­tion to ob­tain funds on three sep­a­rate is­sues be­gin­ning with re­im­burse­ment of main­te­nance ex­penses, eval­u­ated at a cost of $328.41.

Along with $261.75 to mod­ify the slip on units and a fur­ther $500.00 for the pur­chase of a trailer.

The ap­pli­ca­tion is able to be funded within the cur­rent bud­get al­lo­ca­tion of coun­cil and in ac­cor­dance with the North Bur­nett Re­gional Coun­cil Revenue Pol­icy and State­ment.

Coun­cil has ap­proved the ap­pli­ca­tion on all three re­quests and ex­pen­di­ture will be in ac­cor­dance with Coun­cil Gen­eral Pol­icy 248 and Pol­icy No. 215 Ru­ral Fire Bri­gade Units Util­i­sa­tion.

QFES Bur­nett Area Direc­tor Neil Kelso could not be reached for com­ment on the fund­ing al­lo­ca­tions.

Fund­ing is part of Dis­as­ter Man­age­ment where coun­cil co-or­di­nates re­sponses and builds com­mu­nity re­silience in the face of nat­u­ral and man made dis­as­ters.
