Big plans for the re­gion

FEDERAL mem­ber for Flynn Ken O’Dowd has wel­comed news that more than four mil­lion Aus­tralian homes and busi­nesses are now able to or­der a ser­vice over the Na­tional Broad­band Net­work.

Ac­cord­ing to a me­dia re­lease from Mr O’Dowd, at the be­gin­ning of Jan­uary, 70% of re­gional premises were ei­ther ready for ser­vice or un­der con­struc­tion.

Across Flynn, 36,479 homes and busi­nesses are ready to re­ceive a ser­vice, with 9288 al­ready con­nected.

Within the North Bur­nett re­gion, fixed line ser­vices in Monto are ex­pected to start con­struc­tion in April next year.

Ac­cord­ing to NBN Co, Mun­dub­bera is ex­pected to be ser­viced by a com­bi­na­tion of fixed line, fixed wire­less and satel­lite ser­vices.

Those ser­vices are due to start be­com­ing avail­able in the first half of this year.

About 570 premises will be ser­viced by fixed line, with an­other 155 on fixed wire­less.

A fur­ther 785 premises in Gayn­dah will re­ceive fixed line tech­nol­ogy, and like other towns, the work is ex­pected to start in the first half of the year.

This is great news for re­gional ar­eas that can now ac­cess more of the ben­e­fits of high speed broad­band.
