Bulls become first team into the final
CRICKET: The Bulls have secured their place in the 2016–17 Mundubbera and Gayndah Senior Cricket Final in two weeks after overcoming the Rebels.
It came down to the last wicket as the Rebels fell just seven runs short of a victory, meaning they will play the Stingers in next week’s preliminary final.
Bulls captain Mitch Kirk said the team played well against a resilient Rebels line-up.
“We were without our strike bowler today, Jake Dingle, considering we were down a few players it has been a good effort,” Kirk said.
“I actually thought we were beaten at one point, it was a close one.
“It’s been a battle between them and us for the last two years and it has always been a good game, always really even and neither team ever dominates the other.”
If the Rebels manage to defeat the Stingers in next week’s preliminary final, they will have their chance at redemption by facing the Bulls for the title.
“They are a good team and ever since they came into the competition the local derby has always been a challenge,” Kirk said.
The Bulls managed to wrestle supremacy away from the Rebels during the second innings.

game turned around for us,” Kirk said.
Shepherd hurt his back while batting for the Rebels and is confident it is nothing major.
The Bulls may still have to fill player spots on the team for the final in two weeks’ time.
“We might have to deal with missing players again for the final, mainly because of some weddings and whatnot going on,” Kirk said.
Seeing the team perform so well under pressure and undermanned at the weekend has given Kirk extra faith in the team.
The Stingers defeated the Wanderers in the elimination final played in Mundubbera at the weekend, making the Wanderers the first team knocked out of this year’s finals series.
The Stingers and Rebels play for the last spot in the final on Saturday, February 25, in Gayndah and the grand final will be played in Mundubbera on Saturday, March 4.
VICTORY: The Bulls were able to defeat the Rebels in Gayndah.
