Flood affected residents called upon to share experiences

Central and North Burnett Times - - NEWS -

NORTH Burnett resident Owen Burgemeister is putting out a call as a helping hand to anyone in the region who feels they are still suffering some lingering effects from the recent floods and the damage that followed.

Mr Burgemeister tried to organise a Flood Forum for this past weekend but unfortunately the numbers weren’t what he had hoped.

“I’m not too sure if it was because of the advertising or what but I only got one guy there and he thought it was for something else,” Mr Burgemeister said.

“But I would be willing to try and organise another one if the interest is there.”

Mr Burgemeister helped with the flood recovery and saw first hand the damage inflicted physically and mentally on those most effected.

“Some people were just absolutely destroyed by it,” Mr Burgemeister said.

Mr Burgermeister first came up with the idea for the forum as a way for those effected by the floods to come together and share their memories, thoughts and feelings.

“The emotional scars you can't see still run deep I believe,” he said.

“And the power of the mind is one of the strongest things and I believe it starts there.”

Mr Burgemeister hopes to get people together who can relate with each others struggles since the floods.

If you are interested in a Flood Forum please contact Mr Burgemeister on 0427 613 161.
