MORE ex­treme heat across the North Bur­nett saw 1210 head yarded at Monto’s fat and store sale on Wed­nes­day, Fe­bru­ary 15.

Cat­tle pro­duc­ers have de­cided to re­duce num­bers in the lead up to win­ter with lit­tle or no rain over much of the sup­ply area.

The mar­ket slid ap­prox­i­mately 10 to 15 cents/kilo­gram but the over­sup­ply of cat­tle has forced the price drop.

Ge­off and Del­lis McLaugh­lan sold Drought­mas­ter bul­locks 543kgs for 290c/kg or $1575.

Rob and Tr­ish By­grave’s Sim­brah bul­locks re­alised $1570 or 287c/kg.

Pat Wil­liams penned Santa trade steers to realise 309c/kg or $1575.

Ron and Mar­garet Hamp­son’s Santa bul­locks 660kgs sold to 283c/kg or $1870.

War­ren McLach­lan sold Brah­man bul­locks 566kgs for 291c/kg or $1648 and Brah­man heifers 5156kg for $1405 or 272c/kg.

EN and PA Hind­marsh penned Char­bray heifers which sold from 291c/kg to 303c/kg top­ping at $1520.

Becky Wil­son, Eureka Creek Brah­mans sold cows 522kgs for 245c/kg or $1280.

Ride­out Graz­ing penned Red Brah­man cows 530kgs which re­turned $1273. Les and Val Hotz sold Brah­man cows 566kgs for 236c/kg or $1337.

The next Biggen­den meat­works and store sale is Mon­day, March 6.


NUM­BERS grew to 1450 at Mur­gon’s sale on Tues­day, mainly due to the con­tin­u­ing dry con­di­tions.

The mar­ket was eas­ier for most de­scrip­tions but in gen­eral most of the cat­tle yarded still sold to strong rates. Out­side com­pe­ti­tion from the Downs and New South Wales was a big con­trib­u­tor to those rates.

Cat­tle were drawn from Eidsvold, Mun­dub­bera, Gayn­dah, Mt Perry, Biggen­den, Yar­ra­man, Kingaroy, Nanango and lo­cally.

Heavy ex­port steers sold to $3.05 c/kg and $1622. Bulls topped at $2.55 c/kg and $2400.

Heavy cows were slightly eas­ier, sell­ing to $2.48 c/kg with cows over 500kg av­er­ag­ing $2.29 c/kg.

Cows 400-500kg topped at $2.34 av­er­ag­ing $2.17 c/kg. Lighter Cows sold to $2.05 c/kg.

Ex­port heifers sold to $2.93 c/kg for $1539.00. 440kg Char­bray steers from Em­jay Char­brays, Goomeri, sold to $3.33 c/kg for $1468.
