So, how is your heart health?
Guardian Pharmacies can help you monitor the health of your heart in many ways
ACCORDING to The Heart Foundation about 55,000 Australians suffer a heart attack each year which equates to one heart attack every 10 minutes.
Gayndah Guardian Pharmacy manager Sam Rowles explains what a heart attack really means.
“Heart attack is a layman’s term referring to a narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries that can kill,” Mrs Rowles said.
“Or requires some form of medical intervention such as medication, time in hospital, or heart surgery.”
The Gayndah and Mundubbera Guardian Pharmacies now have “Have you planned your Heart Attack” on shelves from Dr Warrick Bishop.
“We are excited to offer our communities this book, for customers interested in what they need to know to understand and reduce their risk of heart attack,” Mrs Rowles said.
The earlier you can spot the warning sings the better it will be in the long run.
“The good news is that spotting the signs of an unhealthy heart early may help you reduce your risk of heart disease and other heart related problems,” Mrs Rowles said.
“Your Guardian pharmacist can advise you on action you may need to take, and inform you about simple lifestyle changes you can make, to improve your heart health.”
Guardian Pharmacies also offer a range of other health tools for things like blood pressure and kidney health.
“It’s so important to get your blood pressure checked regularly to help you stay on top of your heart health,” Mrs Rowles said.
“A healthy heart begins at home so have you considered blood pressure monitoring at home?
“Using a blood pressure monitor on a daily basis can provide you with an ongoing record of your blood pressure.
“This record can be discussed with your doctor or pharmacist, making it very useful in managing your health.”
Kidney health can also cause problems with the heart and should be routinely checked.
“The kidneys and the heart are closely related,” Mrs Rowles said.
“High blood pressure can cause kidney damage and kidney damage can cause high blood pressure.
“Kidney Health Australia recommends annual kidney health checks for those at risk.”
Guardian offers an exclusive KidneyCheck screening test.
“You can take that test in the comfort of your own home,” Mrs Rowles said.
“To monitor the health of your kidneys speak to your Guardian pharmacist about our exclusive KidneyCheck program for only $14.99.”
