Burnett residents prepared for wet weather

NORTH Burnett SES members assisted with 10 calls for help in an area stretching from Biggenden to Monto and Kalpowar, during their involvement with ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie

North Burnett SES local controller Brian Lowe said the majority of the calls were for sandbags to prevent homes from flooding.

They were unable to access some homes.

“There was a tree through a roof in Kalpowar the SES could not get to until Saturday due to flooded roads,” Mr Lowe said.

SES members also helped residents in Monto move furniture to higher ground before flood waters moved in.

Mr Lowe said things could have been worse, however most people were now aware and they prepared well for such events.

Two Swift Water rescue crews had been relocated to the North Burnett as a precaution.

Mr Lowe said at the request of the state, a crew was assembled ready to deploy to Bowen on Monday to help out but was stood down late Saturday.

“The deployment would have been for five days,” he said.
